Hi, it’s me. I didn’t actually go anywhere, but if you rely on this Substack for missives from my colorful corner of an old brick mill in northern Vermont, then maybe you wondered where I went. I did start to think that so much time had passed that I was no longer allowed to write anything here. I’m not saying it makes sense. I might be saying it’s a long journey to breakdown the idea of “linear progress.” My decision to share something today is roughly as premeditated as when I grab a handful of chips out of the pantry because my eyes saw that they were there (*repeat eight times per day until the bag is gone*). My huz took some photos of me in a recently finished object (FO) standing against our town’s other mill, and I think they’re nice.
Here are a few things you can learn from these photos:
A cowl is a cylindrical scarf that you don’t have to wrap around your neck; you pull it over your head. They are quite handy, and maybe add a little pizzazz to a regular old outfit?
My outfit is not “regular old.” I paid actual money for this plain gray sweatshirt, something I have never done before for a plain gray sweatshirt. And then my huz came home with the same thing, except Champion brand, from his school, and I wished I had that one instead. And we all love overalls. Everyone on earth loves overalls!
If you scroll up to the second photo you’ll notice a bump in my nose. Since I never miss an opportunity to share how I got it let me regale you with the story. I’m in third grade, I’m rollerskating at an indoor rink, I let go of the side rail and venture into the middle (a real, “look, ma, no hands!” moment), I promptly fall to my knees, another young but bigger person falls directly on top of me and flattens my face into the ground! Nose broken! There was blood everywhere! But the saddest part was that I did not get to finish my sleepover at Kelsey’s house.
Have you ever broken a bone (don’t forget that teeth count)? Did you ever wish you would so your classmates or Drama teacher would sign your cast? What color cast would you have wanted? (It’s the neon pink for me.)
For the love of a good story,
S.

YAY I was so excited to see this post come through!! Cowl looks incredible, I now want one realllll bad. I also strongly feel the "haven't posted in a while maybe I should just GIVE IT UP FOREVER" thing lol. But then I do one and it's like oh, I actually like doing it and the time in between really doesn't matter AT ALL because it's just for fun!? Re: broken bone, you know my claim to fame is, despite a lifetime of sports, the only bone I have ever broken is my jaw. Is it weird to feel proud of that?
